ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce Leadership Fund PAC announces the endorsement of Pam Myhra for the Minnesota House of Representatives.

The Leadership Fund PAC Board uses specific criteria to determine its endorsements. They include: the candidate’s responses to a questionnaire on the business community’s priority issues, local business community support, candidate electability and for incumbents, leadership on key issues and voting records.

The Minnesota Chamber Leadership Fund is a state-registered political action committee. The Fund represents supporters from across Minnesota organized to promote the election of pro-business, pro-jobs candidates to offices of Minnesota state government.

Published: August 2,2010

The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce’s political action committee has announced its first slate of endorsements of legislative candidates.

The Chamber’s Leadership Fund is a frequent source of campaign cash for Republicans. The Chamber has also thrown its support behind two Senate DFLers from the western Minneapolis suburbs: Terri Bonoff, DFL-Minnetonka, and Ann Rest, DFL-New Hope.

Some DFLers would be horrified to get the official backing from the state’s largest business group. But Bonoff was happy to get the Chamber’s nod.

“I’m proud to stand with the Chamber as we work to build a sustainable economic recovery that allows businesses to expand, prosper and create the jobs our state needs,” Bonoff said in a press release.

Bonoff has drawn applause from the business community and the enmity of the Education Minnesota teacher’s union by supporting alternative ways to allow mid-career professionals get licenses to teach. The teacher licensure issue didn’t pass in 2010 and remains a priority for business interests at the Capitol.

Rest calls attention to the Chamber’s PAC support on her campaign website. Rest faces a DFL primary challenger from Patrick Wiles.

House GOP incumbent endorsees are: Steve Gottwalt, Mary Kiffmeyer, Ron Shimanki, Dean Urdahl, Bruce Anderson, Paul Torkelson, Bob Gunther, Tim Kelly, Steve Drazkowski, Connie Doepke, Mike Beard, Mark Buesgens, Pat Garofalo, Tara Mack, Jennifer Loon, Sarah Anderson, Peggy Scott, Tom Hackbarth, Matt Dean, Carol McFarlane and Denny McNamara.

House GOP challenger endorsees are: King Banaian (Distrrict 15B), Sondra Erickson (16A), Joe Schomacker (22A), Kelby Woodard (25B), Daniel Kaiser (26B), Kurt Bills (37B), Diane Anderson (38A), Pam Myhra (40A), Pat Mazerol (41B), Russell Bertsch (52B), Linda Runbeck (53A).

Senate GOP incumbent endorsees include: Michelle Fischbach, Amy Koch, Julie Rosen, Minority Leader Dave Senjem, Claire Robling, Geoff Michel, David Hann, Mike Jungbauer and Ray Vandeveer.

Endorsed Senate GOP challengers are: John Carson (District 4), John Pederson (15), Sean Nienow (17), Al DeKruif (25), Jeremy Miller (31), Ted Daley (38), Benjamin Kruse (47) and Roger Chamberlain (53).

The Chamber’s endorsement criteria isn’t limited to voting records. The Chamber employs a set of five criteria that can also consider a legislator’s efforts to stop proposals unfavorable to business from coming to a vote. The PAC also reviews a candidate questionnaire and input from local chambers.

It remains to be seen if the Chamber will endorse a House DFLer. The Chamber hasn’t endorsed in every race yet because some questionnaires and local chamber responses haven’t been received yet.

The Chamber plans to announce more endorsements for the Legislature and the governor’s race around Labor Day.

Pam Myhra, the Republican endorsed candidate for state representative of House District 40A, is my choice for the Minnesota Legislature.

I was pleased to see that she was recently endorsed by Voices of Conservative Women, an organization that identifies legislative candidates based on their support of fiscal responsibility, limited government, and free market principles.

Myhra understands state government needs to set sensible spending priorities and live within its means, just like our families do. She understands the importance of attracting and keeping businesses in Minnesota so quality jobs are available and people can get back to work. Myhra understands we want to make our own spending decisions as individuals and families, rather than have increased taxes and state government making spending choices for us.

VOICESPAC Endorses Eight for Minnesota House and Senate

1st round of endorsements of fiscally conservative female leaders

Saint Paul, Minnesota, June 30, 2010 – VOICES of Conservative Women (VOICESPAC) released its first round of endorsed candidates for Minnesota House and Senate candidates in the 2010 State Elections.

The (3) Senate and (5) House candidates VOICESPAC is endorsing today are firm supporters of fiscal responsibility, limited government and free market principles. The women endorsed today are knowledgeable and will be the effective leaders of tomorrow.

“These candidates understand that for our economy to grow and for our State to prosper, we must be good fiscal stewards of State finances. These women leaders understand that people provide the best solutions; not a larger, intrusive government,” said Jennifer DeJournett, Director of VOICES of Conservative Women.

“As we continue our efforts to make our VOICES heard, these candidates can be counted on to stay strong on principles and advocate for fiscally responsible policies.”

VOICESPAC published a questionnaire that was comprehensive and met with candidates that have sought our endorsement. We reviewed the candidates’ positions, records, and plans for Minnesota. In 2010 elections, VOICESPAC will actively work to elect our endorsed candidates.

VOICESPAC will be releasing additional endorsements in the coming weeks and months. We will be endorsing additional candidates at the State Legislature, as well as candidates for City Council, School Board, County Commissioner races, throughout the State.

Additionally, VOICESPAC will be honoring several existing legislators and local leaders with “Awards of Excellence”. We intend to honor leaders for their commitment to fiscal responsibility based on their proven track record and for making their VOICE heard on behalf of every day Minnesotan families.

“VOICES of Conservative Women PAC is dedicated to electing leaders who will stand up for our families every day issues and pocket books. This is why who we elect matters at ALL levels of government. We have a great opportunity to make a substantial difference by increasing the number of fiscally responsible leaders in races up and down the ballot,” said Jennifer DeJournett, Director of VOICES of Conservative Women.

“Women play a critical role in our families’ budget and at the election box. Now more than ever, we need to make our VOICES heard in 2010 and beyond,” DeJournett concluded.

BURNSVILLE RESIDENT PAM MYHRA FINISHES
MINNESOTA EXCELLENCE IN PUBLIC SERVICE SERIES

Saint Paul, Minnesota – The Minnesota Excellence in Public Service Series, a national leadership program training women for public service and leadership roles in their careers, communities, and government, announced today that Pam Myhra, Burnsville, has finished the nine month program. A formal graduation ceremony will take place in September.

The Minnesota Excellence in Public Service Series, associated with the national Excellence in Public Service program for women in more than 20 other states, consists of sessions with high level speakers, including hands-on experience at all levels of government, instruction on how to run a successful campaign and a three-day conference in Washington DC to discuss national policy issues. The program is funded and operated by the voluntary contributions of individuals and organizations committed to increasing the leadership of women in political activities, elected offices and key appointive positions at all levels of government.

Graduates of the program have gone on to serve in the Minnesota legislature, on governor-appointed boards, host talk radio, run for office, manage campaigns, and grow grassroots programs.

Mary Igo, Chair of the Minnesota Excellence in Public Service Series Board of Directors, said, “Pam Myhra and the other twelve women who participated in this year’s program are extraordinary in their dedication to their communities. I am confident Pam will accept new and important roles in public service. The women who graduated from the series are enriching our public policy discussions and enhancing the quality of life in our state and our nation.”

Pam is currently running for State Representative of Minnesota House District 40A, central and western Burnsville and the northeastern section of Savage. She lives with her husband, Chuck, and three children in Burnsville.

Pam Myhra Files Affidavit of Candidacy
for State Representative

Pam Myhra, Republican endorsed candidate for State Representative of House District 40A and 32-year Burnsville resident, filed her Affidavit of Candidacy on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at the Secretary of State’s office in St. Paul, MN. House District 40A consists of central and western Burnsville and the northeastern section of Savage.

Myhra, a certified public accountant (inactive license) and former manager for the international public accounting firm, KPMG, is running to advocate for responsible government, the promotion of jobs, and the protection of family incomes.

Myhra said, “When incumbent Rep. Morgan began his term in office and the Democrats took control of the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2007, Minnesota had a $2.2 billion dollar surplus. Now, after four Democratic-controlled legislative sessions, Minnesota faces a looming projected five to eight billion dollar deficit. Throughout the 2010 session, Morgan and his Democratic colleagues concentrated on adding debt and increasing taxes on the people of Minnesota, which has continued to sour our economic environment and burden us, as well as our children, with paying the bill.”

Myhra, a Burnsville Senior High School and University of St. Thomas honor graduate, said, “Similar to the experience of many others in Minnesota, my family suffered a significant drop in income in 2009. We had to review our budget, set responsible priorities, and reduce our spending. Minnesota state government needs to do the same thing.”

Myhra and her husband, Chuck, have three children, all high-honors students at Northwestern College in St. Paul.

Myhra’s campaign website is www.pamforhouse.com and she can be reached at 952.894.0544 or at pam@pamforhouse.com.

Burnsville residents Dan Hall and Pam Myhra will represent the Republican Party in November legislative races in districts covering the largest swath of Burnsville…

…Myhra will face DFL Rep. Will Morgan in House District 40A, which includes the downtown Savage area.

Hall and Myhra were unopposed in their endorsement bids at the Republicans’ Senate District 40 convention Feb. 27 at Burnsville City Hall.

They’ll try to reclaim Burnsville-area seats long held by Republicans before Doll and Morgan first won election in 2006, a big year for Democrats in Minnesota and nationwide…

Pam Myhra

Myhra attended her first precinct caucus in 1994. She’s served two terms as chair of House District 40A Republicans. She was Burnsville chair of the George W. Bush re-election campaign in 2004 and Dakota County co-chair of John McCain’s 2008 campaign.

But only now that her three children are done with home-schooling did the time seem right to run for office.

“I would say I’m definitely a conservative,” said Myhra, whose children are now all dean’s listers at Northwestern College in Roseville. “My greatest concern right now, and one of the reasons for entering the race besides the opening up of a new chapter in my life, is the economy and jobs. Our family suffered a decrease of a fifth of our income last year. As a family, we had to make a serious review of our budget, how we were spending money and what we were prioritizing. I believe state government needs to do the same thing.”

Myhra, of 13220 Elm Lane, first came to Burnsville as a 10th-grader and graduated from Burnsville High School in 1975. She and husband Chuck returned in 1986.

She’s been director of the girls club for 14 years at her church, Bethesda Church in Prior Lake, where she has chaired women’s ministries and teaches parenting classes.

Myhra said her top legislative priorities are making state government “responsible,” promoting job creation and protecting family incomes.

Myhra has criticized Morgan for voting last year for a DFL tax bill that included elimination of the mortgage-interest and property-tax deductions.

Morgan has said he voted for the overall bill only to move it out of committee and launch debate, objected to the specific provision and later voted against the entire bill.

“To me,” Myhra said, “that provision is so horrible it shouldn’t even have come out of committee.”
