Myhra keeps buyouts in the public eye

To the editor:

I want to thank state Rep. Pam Myhra, R-Burnsville, for tireless work to bring more transparency and accountability to public employee contracts.

During the 2012 legislative session, Myhra worked very hard on legislation to require more disclosure for public employee separation agreements. Her bill passed the Legislature unanimously and was signed into law by Gov. Mark Dayton.

During this past legislative session, a loophole was discovered in the 2012 law. In response, Myhra authored a bill that gave more specific guidelines for disclosing the reasons for payouts involving $10,000 or more of public funds.

Although a member of the minority party in the Legislature, Myhra worked across party lines and was able to get her bill included as a provision in the Omnibus Data Practices Bill, which passed with broad bipartisan support in the Legislature and was signed into law by the governor.

I thank Myhra for all of her efforts to shine light on how our tax dollars are being spent. She is our representative, and she truly represents us. I am proud to support her, and encourage her to continue to represent us and keep up the good work.
